A tribute to our teachers
It was the day to honor and pay respect to the person who has a tremendous impact on every child’s life – A TEACHER!
A teacher plays a pivotal role in shaping the lives of these little boys and girls. Holding their hand and teaching them how to scribble the letter A or awarding them with her million dollar smile, none could do it more perfectly than their teacher.
This teacher’s day, we at Yuva Bengaluru chose to flag off our first monthly event by celebrating teacher’s day at our very own Deena Seva Sangha. Our volunteers gathered on the 5th of September to conduct a painting competition for the students.
The little boys and girls were seen at their creative best. Some chose to scribble using crayons while some opted to mess around with the water colors. We were surprised with the creative ideas that the kids came up with. The favorite among the themes was a house and the Indian flag.
Some of them put a lot of thought into their painting, conveying messages like “save the trees” or “reduce pollution”. Young activists in the making?
It was certainly a colorful day and the prizes were handed over to them by their teachers.
It was now time to felicitate a teacher for her outstanding contributions towards the development of the students. Mrs. Malar was honored with the Best Teacher Award for the year 2009-10.
It was also important for us to honor one of our volunteer for his hard work and dedication towards the students. Mr. Girish was awarded the Best Volunteer for having charmed the 10th STD students with his skills in algebra.
The day ended with a discussion among the volunteers about their experience as a teacher and one of the volunteers concluded by saying
“In this day and age speaking English is no big deal but getting someone to speak English is certainly a challenge. When I see my students spell or read fluently, trust me it feels as good as a promotion or an appraisal!”
