14-11-09 : Children’s day out
The 14th of November needs no introduction; the most anticipated day for the little innocent faces. As all of us know it marks the birth anniversary of legendary freedom fighter and independent India’s first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, it is celebrated as children’s day, because of his love and passion for children.
This year we decided to do something more meaningful than distributing sweets or books. We decided to take the children of Deena Seva Sangha on a trip to the planetarium and Museum. The purpose of this trip was both to expose them to the outside world and let them have their bit of fun as well as well make it an interesting learning experience.
It all started at 8: 30 am on a not so sunny morning; off we were to the planetarium. Many volunteers signed up for the event and each volunteer was in charge of ten kids. The volunteers and the students bonded amidst the stars and the moons.
Many volunteers shyly admitted that it was their first visit to the planetarium. After the show at the planetarium they headed the science park and played around with the creations of Newton and Einstein.
The not so sunny morning had dawned the form of a super sunny afternoon and we decided to head to Cubbon Park for the most exciting part of the trip – a sumptuous meal.
After that we headed to the Museum hoping to make the most out of the three floors of science.
While the high school kids curiously asked the volunteers why certain things happened the way they did, demanding an explanation, the younger set of kids preferred extremely content terming the scientific models as ‘magic’.
Little did we realize that it was 3 pm already and time to return to school. As we all know there is no children’s day without chocolates, we distributed them just before heading back to school.
We hope that the kids enjoyed their day and Mr. Nehru is happy with our efforts so that we can continue doing this for many years to come.

Children’s day ‘09 was the most enjoyable and memorable Children’s day for me
Spending time with the sweetest group of children surpassed any of the children’s days that I enjoyed at my school carnivals. The only tiny handicap was communicating well with my broken Kannada but by the end of the day it had definitely improved

Everything was well organized and the team did a good job of making sure the kids had a super time! One of the main aims of that day was to put a smile on their innocent faces but we ended the day with bigger smiles
Thank u Yuva Bengaluru
Glad you had fun
The most memorable part of the even is when we all sung ” Hum Honge Kamiyab….”
What say guys???
I missed this!!!!!
